Class Action: Frank Tremblay v. Raymond-Marie Lavoie et al
Petitioner, Frank Tremblay, has instituted in the Superior Court of Montreal a
Motion for authorization to institute a class action against Raymond-Marie Lavoie, the
Collège Saint-Alphonse (formally known as Séminaire Saint-Alphonse) and the
Congrégation du Très-Saint-Rédempteur (now known as Les Rédemptoristes).
On November 23, 2010, Justice Claude Bouchard granted said Motion for
authorization to institute a class action, the whole as appears from a copy of the
judgment.
The group that Mr. Tremblay aims to represent, in the eventuality that the
authorization is granted, is the following (free translation): "All persons who have
been physically and/or sexually abused by any priest member of the Congrégation
du Très-Saint-Rédempteur, between 1960 and 1987,while they were students at the
Séminaire Saint-Alphonse (now known as the Collège Saint-Alphonse)."
As it appears from the judgment dated November 23, 2010, Justice Bouchard granted
the right of the victims to testify on a confidential basis by using a pseudonym.
The notices to members have
been published in the following newspapers: La Presse, Le Journal de Montréal, Le
Journal de Québec, Le Soleil.
The Motion to Institute Proceedings has been served and filed into the Court record. It was recently amended and particularized.
